Huck Finn team & guides
Each Huck Finn team member is an expert in a variety of different fields, ranging from aeronautics, nutrition, computers & communications, art history, marketing and ecology to languages, PR and geography, but we are united by our passion towards nature and the outdoors. Our team at Huck Finn shares a great mix of backgrounds; from long time white water rowers to rafting instructors and national team members, hikers and trekkers, rock climbers and skiing lovers. Experienced in travelling, mastering the local knowledge and highly educated, we will help you discover the natural beauty, local culture and history of the place.
We choose our guides based on their ability for responsible planning, preparation and organisation of activity. Once the trip begins, they are in charge of the health and safety of all trip participants, complete supervision of staff and making sure everyone has fun!
As good communication is essential to appreciate the experience, we offer you English, German, French and Spanish speakers; however, all the knowledge and experience in the world are sometimes not enough. Excellent people skills, patience and a talent for sharing local knowledge and an insight into Croatian life and culture is common to them, for this is the life of an adventure tour leader.
We travelled and explored the natural beauties of our land just like our childhood hero, Mark Twain’s great rafter and canoeist, Huckleberry Finn did. We let the river flow, the winds and the hidden paths take us into the unknown. Our motto is: “See them as they are, leave them as they were”.
Zeljko is the owner and general manager of Huck Finn. When he built his first canoe in the late seventies, he named it after his childhood hero – Huckleberry Finn. Twenty years on, his first canoe transformed into his own business – Huck Finn. Zeljko was one of the first persons to explore Croatia's beautiful rivers in a kayak, canoe and raft and start running organized outdoor trips in our country. He lead Team Croatia to the Camel White Water Challenge competitions on the Zambezi (Zimbabwe, 1996 and 1997), Pacuare (Costa Rica, 1998) and Orange rivers (South Africa, 1999) and is one of the founders of the International Rafting Federation. Today he spends most of his time on the Huck Finn catamaran guiding our sailing trips.
Gorana started working for Huck Finn in 2008 after obtaining a degree in environmental studies. It was supposed to be a summer job to take some time to think about her future career in the ecology branch. But Gorana fell in love with adventure travel, Huck Finn, and the people that make our small community so special - and never left.
Gorana speaks English and French fluently, as well as Spanish. She enjoys all outdoor activities, but hiking is her favourite. As a product manager at Huck Finn she is responsible for the organisation of several one-day and multi-day trips (mostly in continental Croatia) and also finds time to guide a few groups every season to get away from the office.
Ivana graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Tourism. Ivana works in the Dubrovnik office all year round as our Dubrovnik area manager. She loves running and swimming and enjoys watching football. Like a true Dalmatian, she loves spending time on boats. It is the Huck Finn team's goal to get Ivana to try kayaking in 2013.
Matija graduated from the Faculty of Economics. Matija works in the tourism business all year round, working in the office in the winter and as a guide during the summer. He started as a rafting guide, but with time has shown that he has the skills for all outdoor activities organized by Huck Finn. Sailing, rafting and kayaking are his passions, but he also enjoys other activities such as cycling, hiking and climbing. Matija holds a boating license and plans on starting a sailing company in Croatia. During wintertime he loves snowboarding or just being somewhere in the mountains. At home he enjoys spending time in front of the TV with a good movie or just listening to music. Cooking is another of Matija's passions, especially barbecue.
Nikolina grew up in a small village near Zagreb, spending most of her time running and cycling. After a period of training and competition, she started working as a cycling guide in Croatia, where she discovered kayaking, which became her passion. She has been in the adventure travel business for seven years now and prefers spending her time in nature, with a camera always on her.

Vanja has a degree in Art History and English Language and Literature. She worked as a sea kayaking guide from 2005 to 2008 before dedicating to teaching English for several years. Having explored Europe and the Americas and deciding it was time for another change of career, she rejoined the Huck Finn team full time in 2011 and is now discovering the hidden beauties of Croatia. Vanja used to compete in ice skating at an international level. Today she balances her interest in art, skating and tango with the newly found passion for everything outdoors – especially rock climbing and sailing.
Davor graduated from Zagreb School of Economics to become a tourism manager. He is also a certified Zagreb city guide, IRF raft guide and soon to become a mountain leader. Davor loves nature and outdoors activities, especially rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, and mountain biking, and is ready to try every other activity you can do in nature. Davor’s travels throughout Croatia and beyond, both as a guide and outdoorsman, have provided him with valuable insights into our cultural and natural heritage which he will be happily sharing with you.
Micha became a river guide when he was 18 and has been guiding river and multisport trips ever since. Apart from kayaking and rafting, he enjoys trekking in the mountains of Croatia and South America.
Goran is from Peljesac, a beautiful peninsula in the south of our country, famous for its exquisite nature, hidden beaches and coves, salt farms and some of the most delicious oysters and wine you will find in Croatia. He has a degree in Management in Tourism from the University of Dubrovnik. Cycling is his passion and he spends every free moment riding his bike and exploring cycling routes on Peljesac. He's been a member of the Huck Finn team since 2012, mostly guiding our Sea Kayaking Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Islands Multisport and Village by the Sea trips. During the off season he spends his time taking care of his olive groves and vineyards.

Irena started working with Huck Finn at the end of the 2012 season as an interpreter for French groups and decided to join the Huck Finn team in 2013 after completing the company's guide training. Before starting working at the Huck Finn office in the fall of 2013 she guided hiking and multisport trips and her favorite activity is river kayaking. She has a Master's degree in Education Sciences and French Language and Literature, but would like to specialize in conference interpreting for French language. Although she quickly got attached to all outdoor activities, her true passion remains salsa dancing.
