The highlights of this multi-activity adventure holiday include canoeing/kayaking, rafting, hiking and cycling in the area around Plitvice Lakes National Park while experiencing breathtaking views and stunning scenery of Croatia. Plitvice Lakes National Park, a World Heritage Site, plays host to 16 lakes, numerous waterfalls fed by both the Black and White Rivers, as well as seemingly endless forests which make for unique and unforgettable experiences. The itinerary will also take you on a journey down the Mreznica River by kayak or canoe, rafting down the Una River in Bosnia and hiking in Velebit Nature Park with a visit of the Adriatic coast.

Join us in this small Mediterranean country that's big on adventure. With delicious Croatian fare and intimate lodgings it's easy to see why both Lonely Planet and National Geographic have called Croatia a "must do" destination.

Day 1 Arrival in Korana village
Leaving Zagreb, Zadar or Rijeka airport behind, we make our way to the tiny village of Korana, located in a picture-perfect riverside setting near Plitvice Park. Here we have a unique opportunity to spend a week with local residents in their private guesthouses. After settling into your accommodation, we will meet for dinner and brief orientation, where we will have the chance to discuss the upcoming holiday and get to know our fellow travelers.
Meals: D; Van ride: 2 hours one way.
Day 2 Plitvice Lakes National Park walking
We start our day walking along the wooden paths and bridges in and around Plitvice Lakes, Croatia's premier national park. Its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the pure, untouched nature. A panoramic boat and train ride will take us back to the start. Later in the afternoon we return to Korana village just in time to enjoy a swim in the clear river just in front of your house.
Meals: B and D (picnic lunch on your own); Walking: 4-6 miles; Terrain: easy, well marked paths.
Day 3 Cycling in Plitvice Lakes Area
Today is all about exploring the lovely pastoral Croatian countryside by bike. We cycle on nearly traffic free roads through forests, between hills and across green fields. We will have time for a picnic lunch and time to relax outdoors. In the afternoon we bike back to Korana Village in time to enjoy a traditional Croatian evening meal.
Meals: B and D (picnic lunch on your own); Cycling: 4 hours; Terrain: rolling hills. (Please note that cycling the entire route may be too difficult for small children, but the support van can pick them up and take them back to the village if they are tired.)
Day 4 Zrmanja River kayaking
This kayaking trip is an expedition down the magnificent Wild West-like canyons of the Zrmanja River in Velebit Nature Park. Perfectly clear and green waters, rapids and waterfalls, hidden swimming pools and steep sided canyons will steal your heart and make this excursion an unforgettable experience. No previous kayaking experience is needed if you can swim. We use open canoes or siton-top kayaks for 2 persons with optional child seat. Rafting boats are used during high water season (usually before May and after September, but the water level can vary a lot in spring and in autumn). After an amazing day on the river, we will return to our vans and drive back to Korana village.
Meals: B and D (picnic lunch on your own); Kayaking: class II-III, 4 h, easy/moderate; Van ride: 2h to the Zrmanja river, 2h to Korana village.
Day 5 Optional trip day
For those who chose a 5-day trip, this is the end of your holiday. You are welcome to schedule your homeward transport for any time.
The rest of the group continues the trip. On the fifth day of your holiday you can be as active or as lazy as you want. You can relax by the river, swim or even take another optional cycling tour on your own in and around Plitvice Lakes National Park. Several river, walking, sightseeing or beach trips will be offered, in case you are keen on discovering more beauties that Croatia has to offer.
Meals: B and D (lunch on your own); Van ride: max 2 hours one way.
Day 6 Una River Rafting
The Una River forms a natural border between Croatia and Bosnia. It will steal your heart with its beauty, green clear water and a landscape of dense forests. The Una is rich in water even in summer so rafting is possible all year round. There are several sections to choose from, and our guides will select the one that is best adapted to group abilities and current water levels.
Meals: B and D (picnic lunch on your own); Van ride: 1h one way; Rafting: class I-III, 2-3 hours.
Day 7 Kayaking in the Mreznica River canyon
We return to the river this morning in the upper Mreznica canyon. Our route takes us from the hotel to a point approximately 45 minutes away where we’ll start our expedition into the canyon. We travel through a gorge so narrow and deep that the sun enters for only a few hours each day, around noon, creating spectacular light effects. Paddling past cliffs of carved white rocks, lush vegetation and cascading waterfalls, we will arrive at a strong freshwater spring. We continue our journey to the second highest waterfall on the Mreznica (8m), a magical place ideal for swimming and a picnic. After a break, we continue and finish the adventure and finally return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Meals: B and D (picnic lunch on your own); Kayaking: class II-III, moderate, 4 - 5 hours; Drive: 45 min each way. Please note that in case of very low water levels the trip can only be done downstream - in that case the duration of kayaking is 2-3 hours. In case of high water levels we use rafting boats (2 hours of rafting).
Day 8 Departure
Depart Korana village for the airport and flight home. If you decide to spend more time in Croatia, our guides will be happy to recommend other beautiful places to visit - especially those you won’t find in tourist guide books.
Meals: B; Van drive: 2 hours one way.

Corinna, United Kingdom , September 2015
Really enjoyed my holiday. I loved every part of my stay. All the activities were amazing. I loved the food too very much and was very pleased to try Croatian specialities.
Mariane, France, September 2015
Perfectly organized multi-activity trip with a Croatian character in awesome surroundings. Unexpected activity – canyoning – kayaking at Mreznica river.
Olga, Russia, September 2015
Overall, a great week with just the right variety of different activities – the favorite weather all week was a definite adventure! The best day was kayaking the Mreznica and jumping off the waterfall.
Julie, Switzerland, September 2015
Nature. Beautiful. Excellent. Awesome. All was great, from the hiking to the water sport. A wonderful way to discover the wild Croatia doing great sports.
Antonin, France, August 2015
As a family we all enjoyed the range of activities. The organisation was excellent and fun was had by all. The food was also very good. We could all relax and enjoy the holiday.
Helen, United Kingdom, August 2015
Amazing – I have already considered another trip with Huck Finn. The group enthusiasm combined with the guides experience + knowledge made every activity exciting and memorable – hvala!
Aimee, United Kingdom, August 2015
I cannot speak more highly of both of our guides, Hrvoje and Zoran. They both complement each other very well and were excellent. Hrvoje is very knowledgeable about Croatian history and culture and shared a lot with us. Zoran is very friendly and went out of his way to ensure that we were happy. The holiday was just what I was looking for, it was active and event though there were children in the group, we were still extended and I did not feel any less active! The guides ensured that my friend and I also gained what er wanted from this holiday.
Catherine, United Kingdom, August 2015
An unforgettable experience in a beautiful country. The nature where we're staying in peaceful and extraordinarily and naturally beautiful. Such a pleasure to see. I particularly enjoyed the water based activities, kayaking and rafting.
Anne, United Kingdom, August 2015
It was such an amazing holiday and I enjoyed every part. But if I had to choose the best part i would say visiting the first National Park and kayaking down the rivers. Amazing!
Hannah, United Kingdom, July 2015
Had a great time – loved every minute of it – friendly atmosphere, definitely recommend it to others. Loved the kayaking. everything was great, felt relaxed and welcomed the minute i was picked up.
Sarah, Ireland, July 2015
Our group was very dinamic and we really enjoyed the time with all of them! I am absolutely satisfied with my holidays! It was a great mixture of activity and enjoying and relaxing in this beautiful country.
Diana, Austria, May 2015
We did the five-day version of the Land of Waterfalls trip and would recommend it.
I especially enjoyed the rafting in Bosnia. It rained heavily on one day, and our guides (Nikolas and Ana) were very chilled out and accommodating. None of us particularly wanted to get on a bicycle in the rain so instead we visited a bear sanctuary and flour mill. We enjoyed staying in a small, peaceful, beautiful local village.
Evenings consisted of fantastic outdoor meals and good chats with the other members of our tour group over local liquors. I also really enjoyed the history talk given by our guide Nikolas before dinner one evening. The history of Croatia is obviously very complex and turbulent so it was informative to hear it from a local person.
du_vin_rouge, London, United Kingdom; October 2013
I was met at Zagreb airport by the lovely Arena, and we all drove to the beautiful Korana Village, where we were settled into our accommodation.
Our accommodation hosts Marko and his wife and daughter were so kind and generous.
The activities throughout the week were fun, exciting, challenging, awesome, and very well organised and safe. The group itself was the best - thank you everyone - and the food was homemade, traditional and delicious, eaten as we sat by the fire in the evenings and laughed about the day's adventures.
Both of our guides - Irena and Ana were very friendly, attentive, thoughtful, organised and fun! I would recommend this trip to everyone who has a sense of adventure, wants to see some of the Croatian countryside and its culture and who likes water!
Go for it!
Cath, Scotland, United Kingdom; October 2013
I signed up for this trip really late, and Huck Finn went out their way to accommodate me - very impressed with the organisation.
I'm SO glad I did this, it was the highlight of my holiday in Croatia.
Great group of likeminded people, so well organised and hosted by Irena and Ana (who were truly "The Dream Team"), awesome activities (the Una river rafting just fantastic), delicious local food (and plum brandy!), wonderful village accommodation.
There's nothing I would change and I can't recommend this more highly. Be aware that the activities really are quite "active" and you'll need a moderate level of fitness - which suited me perfectly - but not for those thinking it's a Sunday stroll in the park.
Michele, South Africa; October 2013
We thoroughly enjoyed Huck Finn's Land of Waterfalls.
We would recommend it to anyone interested in a week of varied activities (hiking, rafting, kayaking, biking, walking), while
experiencing different parts of beautiful Croatia.
Korana Village is idyllic and the meals were delicious.
The guides are very friendly and accommodating and have a deep knowledge of the activities and the local areas. They take good care of you from the moment you are greeted at the airport to the moment it is time to say goodbye. If it happens to rain during your stay, they will even lend you a rain coat.
Overall a fantastic experience. Would love to do it again!!
Vesna, Canada; October 2013
Cannot recommend this company enough!
You stay in beautiful villages, eat genuine Croatian fare, and canoe down (and up!) some of the most breathtaking gorges and rivers. What really makes it special is the care and fun provided by the Huck Finn leaders - in our case Stefan and Ivan.
Nothing is too much trouble for these guys!
The land of waterfalls trip is busy, fun, and challenging. Lots of people in our group were patiently encouraged to face their fears - be it jumping off 8 metre waterfalls, or rafting down them!
Thank you Huck Finn for some great memories and hopefully some new friends.
Kate, United Kingdom; August 2013
This was my third trip to Croatia with Huck Finn, and I had an amazing time!
The weather was perfect and all the recent rain meant the river activities were awesome!
Both guides were fantastic and as usual nothing was too much trouble... Food was excellent too. I was so inspired by the white water activities that I'm now on the lookout for a white water kayak, though UK rivers just can't compare with what there is in beautiful Croatia!
B., London, United Kingdom; June 2013
We went to Croatia in September 2012 and had an amazing time with Huck Finn!
We spent a few days in the Dubrovnik area first. Kajakking, Dubrovnik visit, more kajakking, visiting the islands, it was wonderful!
The guides took us to some of the places you don't get to visit as a "regular" tourist. We went to one of the islands before the shore and it was honestly, some of the most beautiful nature that I have ever seen. The colors of the trees, and the water were unbelievable. We had lunch at a local restaurant that had the best fish I've ever had. Fresh from out of the water. We spent a few hours on a deserted beach, with a beautiful view on the islands! After a few days we went to the Plitvice lake area, which was, if possible, even more beautiful than the Dubrovnik area.
Our guide Zejlka was supernice. We had a ton of fun with her and she really listened to what we wanted to do and what we wanted to visit. We spent a day at the Plitvice National park, we went biking, we visited the caves in the area, we went rafting, ...
All of it was absolutely amazing.
We went swimming in the river, and jumped off waterfalls. It's defenitely a holiday that will stick with me for many years to come. Croatia is so beautiful, and I will defenitely go back and book with Huck Finn again. The guides are all really friendly and really fun! They make your holiday one to never forget!
I would recommend it to anyone!
