Sea Kayaking Dubrovnik
Huck Finn 8 days/7 nights trip
This holiday is designed for those who love traveling, being active outdoors and exploring seaside, nature, heritage, history and art. Daily routes are rather short - 2 to 3 hours of easy sea kayaking - and not demanding, fit for all ages between 14 and late sixties (no previous sea kayaking experience is necessary). Dubrovnik in Croatia– one of the world’s most beautiful old towns - and Elafiti shorelines are rich in history and natural variety - cliffs, caves, pine and palm trees, hidden coves, reefs, sandy beaches...
Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan islands belong to Croatia's Elafiti Islands Archipelago – 13 green islands covered by pine forests, without car traffic, with lots of sunshine and sandy beaches, less than an hour sailing time from Dubrovnik are ideal for relaxing adventure travel. Each has no more than a couple of hundreds permanent residents who live in traditional stone houses. Tall palm trees, parks, gardens and flowers everywhere contribute to an easy going lifestyle. You will spend a day exploring each island and Dubrovnik. They are not just places of incredible natural beauties but also open air museums of history, art, architecture and folklore. And there will be a day for an optional excursion to Herzegovina rivers for rafting or canoeing or Mljet island National Park.
Our base is Lopud island, 1 hour by ferry from Dubrovnik harbor. A small town of the same name with three hotels, several restaurants and cafes, 2 sandy beaches, no cars and great sunsets will be your home for this holiday. You will stay in simple rooms in traditional stone houses (3 and 4-star hotel options are available upon request, with a surcharge depending on type of hotel/room and season).

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 - Saturday: Arrival at Dubrovnik Airport and transfer to Lopud Island
Traveling by bus and boat. Accommodation in a house very near the beach and waterfront and main street of the little town of Lopud. There will be time to enjoy a swim in the sea and a walk to Fort Kastio on the island’s highest peak for a wonderful view of the sunset over the Elafiti Islands. A tour of Lopud's pubs and cafés will take place before and after dinner.
Day 2 - Sunday: Sea Kayaking Lopud and Sipan Islands
Safety and sea kayaking instructions will take place on a sandy beach of Lopud. After that, we will kayak to the nearby island of Sipan. On Sipan you will find the colorful villages of Sudjuradj and Luka Sipanska. The fields between them have preserved chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy, and the real country lifestyle. This island is rich in cultural heritage, tales from the past and many well preserved monuments that witnessed its turbulent history. We will explore them by walking or cycling and there will be plenty of time to enjoy Luka’s beaches and restaurants. We will return to Lopud by late afternoon.
Day 3 - Monday: Sea Kayaking & Snorkeling
We will kayak around the island to the sandy beach of Sunj Bay on Lopud’s Southern side. This is the most popular beach of Dubrovnik so we visit it on Monday when it’s not too busy. Diving mask, snorkel and fins will be provided for you to explore the rich and colorful underwater world of the Adriatic. A pleasant walk back to the village for dinner takes only half hour, but you are welcome to hike the longer western route through the forest and along the high cliff edge.
Day 4 - Tuesday: Sea Kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and walking
Paddle, swim and snorkel around Kolocep island, Croatia's most interesting island for sea kayaking and hiking with its most dramatic scenery full of hidden dark caves, high cliffs and colorful reefs. Walk through Gornje Celo and Donje Celo, well preserved romantic Mediterranean villages and along high cliffs. Have a pleasant noon siesta in the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Gornje Celo turquoise bay near Skerac – kayakers’ favorite restaurant. Late in the afternoon we shall return to Lopud.
Day 5 - Wednesday: Leisure day
Beach day. You are free to do whatever you enjoy the most. Sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, walking, sea kayaking. Or take the ferry to Dubrovnik, the most beautiful of all Croatian and Mediterranean towns, for sightseeing, shopping in ancient streets, walking along city walls… Ice cream or coffee taste best in open air bistros along Stradun, old town’s main street and promenade. Lokrum island Reserve and its rocky beaches are worth exploring and only about 10 minutes by boat from the old town harbor. Return to Lopud in the evening.
Note: This is the last day of the holiday if you booked the 5-day option.
Day 6 - Thursday: Kayak Rijeka Dubrovacka
Back in our sea kayaks today, we explore Rijeka Dubrovacka. Rijeka Dubrovacka ("The River of Dubrovnik") is a deep bay protected from wind by the surrounding mountains, making it ideal for sea kayaking. We will enjoy the views of traditional 15th and 16th century waterfront Dubrovnik Villas as we kayak past them. We will spend the afternoon in the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
Day 7 - Friday: Sea Kayaking
The last sea kayaking trip destination is usually Trsteno village and arboretum – a wonderful park with a collection of exotic plants and trees, Neptune’s fountain and great views of the islands. A farewell party is planned after sunset of the last evening on Lopud.
Day 8 - Saturday: Transfer to Dubrovnik for homebound flight.

Reviews
Needless to say I had such an amazing time in Croatia - - gorgeous country, amazing people etc. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank you personally for making our trip so amazing. We sincerely appreciated the fact that you spent so much time with us down in Dubrovnik and showed us around. We especially loved seeing everything "off the beaten path." Just the best, we had so much fun. I truly did not want to leave. I have some amazing photos that I'll be sending along shortly - - keep an eye out for them. By the way, took your advice after you left and spent the day in Cavtat with my friends (gorgeous).
Of course I must let you know that the trip itself (the itinerary) was amazing. I loved everything we saw - - you guys sure know what you are doing and I've personally started a PR campaign for Croatia. On top of it all, I just ADORED Marko and Iva. They are both really amazing guides and just made our trips really special. It would not have been the same without them. They are just each really great spirits, extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area, the history etc. I know that I'll stay in touch with both of them. You're lucky to have them working for you at the company and they definitely made a difference.

Hi !
As a member of the group from Norway (Bundefjorden padlegruppe) who was sea kayaking from Kolocep 16. – 22. Sept., I want to give you a report. For us, with a reasonable amount of practice in sea kayaking, the arrangement was ideal. Villas Kolocep provided a first class accommodation that suited us very well. The access to the kayaks at any time was perfect. For instance, we were free to make spontaneous sea kayaking tours in the afternoons. We appreciated the freedom to make our own decisions based on your information. A guide to determine everything for us would have been a disaster, I am sure (I know my friends). Everyone in the group has expressed that they were very satisfied with the arrangement, the accommodation and the sea kayaking. Even the non-paddler was very satisfied. The ferry made it possible to follow us from island to island. Thus the Elaphites were perfect for our sea kayaking tour. We recommend the arrangement to everyone.

I would just like to tell you how much myself, Neil and Jon enjoyed our week kayaking off the coast of Dubrovnik, and that we shall be recommending the trip to all our friends! In particular the time spent out on the islands was superb...
Overall we had an fantastic time, and I would like to say how much we enjoyed the guide's company, and how friendly and helpful he was – I think you have found an excellent guide there, and if you could pass on our thanks to him it would be much appreciated.
Thanks again.
Best, Nick
(Nick passed on his enthusiasm to his colleagues in the bank where he works and 15 of them participated in the same trip next summer.)
Excellent - we were lucky enough to have an excellent guide who was flexible and knowledgeable about the area so we really had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend the company and the country (although I'm reluctant to because it's always nice keeping places like that a secret). Thoroughly enjoyed myself and will probably do it again next year and I was surprised how much I enjoyed so much activity... Simply the best holiday I have ever been on. Arriving by kayak at the islands we were visiting every day was always great. Sipanska Luka on Sipan island was particularly beautiful. I didn't realise we would be out all day most days and I although I thoroughly enjoyed it, we did more activity than I had imagined.
We ate in the same restaurant every night run by a local family which was truly excellent - they grew all their own vegetables, made their own wine etc. We also ate and drank at the local places on the islands we visited so there was some benefit there.

I was on a 6-day Kayaktrip, being based on a very sympathic Island in a comfortable pension, doing daytrips to the surrounding islands. The programme was well-balanced,relaxed and moderately demanding, The half-day sailing trip as well as the culture-trip to Dubrovnik did their best to make it a perfect and diversified week. Also big "thumbs up" to our guide who did not dictate a schedule but let the group decide on how the programme should be.
All in all, I am very likely to book another trip with Huck Finn in late summer.

I recently arrived home from Croatia and highly recommend HuckFinn. The company was extrememly professional, energetic and accommodating. All of their sports water equipment and vehicles were up to date; comfortable and in working condition. The accomodations were clean, had a balcony with a view and provided breakfast. it is evident that HuckFinn works with their customers in order to make their trip an unforgettable memory.
