Huck Finn 8 days/7 nights trip

Sea Kayaking Dubrovnik

This holiday is designed for those who love traveling, being active outdoors and exploring seaside, nature, heritage, history and art. Daily routes are rather short - 2 to 3 hours of easy sea kayaking - and not demanding, fit for all ages between 8 and late sixties (no previous sea kayaking experience is necessary). Dubrovnik in Croatia– one of the world’s most beautiful old towns - and Elafiti shorelines are rich in history and natural variety - cliffs, caves, pine and palm trees, hidden coves, reefs, sandy beaches...

Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan belong to Elafiti Islands Archipelago – 13 green islands covered by pine forests, without car traffic, with lots of sunshine and sandy beaches, less than an hour sailing time from Dubrovnik. Each has no more than a couple of hundreds permanent residents who live in stone houses of traditional character. Tall palm trees, parks, gardens and flowers everywhere contribute to easy going life style. You will spend a day exploring each island and Dubrovnik. They are not just places of incredible natural beauties but also open air museums of history, art, architecture and folklore. And there will be a day for an optional excursion to Herzegovina rivers for rafting or canoeing or Mljet Island National Park.

Our base is Lopud Island, 1 hour by ferry from Dubrovnik harbor. A small town of the same name with three hotels, several restaurants and cafes, 2 sandy beaches, no cars and great sunsets. You will stay in simple but clean and pleasant rooms in traditional stone houses. Rooms in 3- and 4-star hotel are available on request, a surcharge depending on type of hotel/room and season. Self-catering apartments are available as well.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival.

Arrive at Dubrovnik airport, harbour or bus station. Our representative will meet you and give you the details of your transfer to Lopud island. The transfer is organized either by a local ferry that runs four times a day or by speedboat. Upon your arrival to Lopud and settling into your accommodation, there will be time for a walk before meeting with your guide and the group over dinner and discussing the upcoming holiday.

Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Dinner.

Day 2 Safety instructions, introduction to kayaking and the equipment. Sea kayaking to Sipan island, hiking or cycling.

Safety instructions will take place in the Lopud Bay this morning. Get the feel of your kayak and practice paddling before embarking on the first journey – kayaking to Sipan island. Sipan has colorful villages of Sudjuradj and Luka Sipanska. The fields between them have preserved the real country life style, chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy. This island is unbelievably rich in cultural heritage, tales from the past and well preserved monuments that witnessed its history. We will explore them by walking or cycling and there will be plenty of time to relax as well. We will kayak back to Lopud late in the afternoon.

Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.
Distance: 6 km kayaking each way.

Note: hiking or cycling will take place depending on group abilities, weather and temperature.

Day 3 Kayaking Lopud-Sunj, hiking back to Lopud village.

Back in our kayaks today as we get ready to paddle half way around Lopud to its sandy Sunj beach. We will explore the island's coastline as we slowly paddle to one of the most popular beaches in the area. After lunch on the beach, feel free to chill out at one of the beach bars, go for a swim or just grab a deck chair and enjoy the afternoon. There are three walking paths leading back to Lopud – the quickest one is 20-30 minutes on foot and two more scenic paths will take you along the cliffs or up the hill to the island's fort.

Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
Distance: 7 km kayaking.

Day 4 Kayaking Sunj-Kolocep-Sunj.

This morning after breakfast we walk back to Sunj beach and prepare to kayak around the best sea kayaking island in Croatia – Kolocep. Explore caves and coves, dramatic cliffs on one and tame beaches on the other side of the island. Snorkeling gear will be provided for you to explore the rich and colorful underwater world of the Adriatic. With occasional swimming and snorkeling stops, we reach Skerac, kayaker's favourite restaurant in time for a break and optional lunch. Late in the afternoon we kayak back to Lopud's Sunj beach.

Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.
Distance: 13 km.

Day 5 Optional trip day/Beach day.

For those who chose a 5-day trip, this is the end of your holiday. You are welcome to schedule your homeward transport for any time.
The rest of the group continues the trip. Relax on Lopud's beaches, visit Dubrovnik on your own or join one of the proposed optional trips.

Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Breakfast.

Day 6 Sunset Kayaking Sunj-Lopud

Enjoy a later start today as we hike back to Sunj Beach and spend the early afternoon having lunch doing beach activities. We return to our kayaks once more in the late afternoon and kayak into the sunset. Depending on the weather and group abilities, the guide may propose a longer kayaking trip to Sveti Andrija island as well.
Return to Lopud early in the evening.

Distance: 6 km.
Accommodation: Lopud. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.

Day 7 Kayaking Lopud-Trsteno-Lopud.

The last kayaking trip destination is Trsteno village and arboretum – a wonderful park with a collection of exotic plants and trees, Neptune’s fountain and great views of the islands. Reviews

Just spent a week paddling, cycling, swimming, eating, drinking, laughing and being introduced to Croatia and the Elafiti Islands - Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan. We were a mixed generational group - Scots, English and Aussies (or should that be "Tassies"?) the instruction was solid + you could "go for it" or just "chill". Value for money - thanks to Huck Finn

Alistair, United Kingdom; October 2013

We did a week long sea kayaking and cycling excursion with Huck Finn in early September.
Our group was comprised of 11 folks from the US, Germany and UK. From the very start, everything was easy, fun and enjoyable because of Huck Finn. Our flight actually arrived late into Dubrovnik, but the driver was there waiting for us and took us to a small dock where an equally small boat was waiting to personally escort us to the island of Lopud - which served as the base for our excursions.
Our sleeping quarters for the week was an old stone home close to the ferry dock. The place was amazing - ripe grapes hung from trellises over our heads, fig trees, also ripe - it was like a small bit of paradise. Aleksandar ran the homebase and was both hospitable and fun, often sharing jokes and stories over dinner. Our tour guide during the day was Gorin who was always positive and receptive to what the group was interested in doing.
I am not 100% sure why, but the mix of the different folks really created a cool environment that made everyone feel relaxed and the whole crew of people on our tour ended up really clicking and having a lot of fun together.
It was great memories and we would absolutely do it again.

A little piece of heaven - magnificent coastline, beautiful waters.
A wonderful part of the world.
Don't miss it.

Caroline; June 2013

We went to Croatia in September 2012 and had an amazing time with Huck Finn!
We spent a few days in the Dubrovnik area first. Kajakking, Dubrovnik visit, more kajakking, visiting the islands, it was wonderful!
The guides took us to some of the places you don't get to visit as a "regular" tourist. We went to one of the islands before the shore and it was honestly, some of the most beautiful nature that I have ever seen. The colors of the trees, and the water were unbelievable. We had lunch at a local restaurant that had the best fish I've ever had. Fresh from out of the water. We spent a few hours on a deserted beach, with a beautiful view on the islands! After a few days we went to the Plitvice lake area, which was, if possible, even more beautiful than the Dubrovnik area.
Our guide Zejlka was supernice. We had a ton of fun with her and she really listened to what we wanted to do and what we wanted to visit. We spent a day at the Plitvice National park, we went biking, we visited the caves in the area, we went rafting, ... All of it was absolutely amazing. We went swimming in the river, and jumped off waterfalls. It's defenitely a holiday that will stick with me for many years to come.
Croatia is so beautiful, and I will defenitely go back and book with Huck Finn again.
The guides are all really friendly and really fun! They make your holiday one to never forget!
I would recommend it to anyone!
