This active Balkan holiday allows you to immerse in the culture and the scenery of the region. You will discover Southeast Europe through various day adventures over a fun filled ten day period.  Start in Dubrovnik and slowly travel north towards  Slovenia.

This holiday tour visits some of the most interesting parts of Balkan region while keeping it active. Observe the spectacular Elaphiti Archipelago while you sea kayak in the clear, blue Adriatic. Raft and kayak on three different rivers: Tara, Zrmanja and Trebizat. Cycle in Krka River National Park and finally hike famous Plitvice Lakes National Park. This corridor is where the East and West meet. Spirits of the long-gone Ottoman Empire, Venetian and Dubrovnik Republic can still be felt at every step. Local food and wine, relaxed Balkan vibe and fun activities in secluded areas guarantee an unforgettable, authentic experience.

Arrival in Dubrovnik

 Our adventure starts in the ancient town of Dubrovnik. We advise to arrive a day before or in early morning, so you have enough time to explore its UNESCO protected Old Town and do some shopping. Ice cream or coffee taste best in open air bistros along Stradun, Old Town’s main street and promenade. In the evening we will meet for orientation and group dinner in Zaton Bay.

Zaton Bay Sea Kayaking

 Today we explore the 2 kilometer deep Zaton Bay, its surrounding cliffs and caves by sea kayak. Check out some stunning views of the Elaphiti Archipelago and challenge yourself to do some cliff jumping. After a casual lunch on the beach we will continue our trip to Montenegro, a tiny country featuring five stunning national parks. Depending on the road and border traffic, arrival to thepicturesque Zabljak at the foot of Durmitor Mountain is expected by 7 pm. Accommodation in Zabljak area, dinner.

Hiking Durmitor National Park

 After waking up next to some amazing mountain tops, get ready to hike one of them. Durmitor National Park is home to 23 mountain tops over 2300 meters. Together with its black pine forests, glacier lakes, caves and deep river canyons, the Durmitor region has been protected by UNESCO from 1980. We will hike one of the many routes that criss-cross this exciting terrain. The hike will leave you ready for a good night’s sleep, but in the evening don’t miss out to explore Zabljak, a popular outdoor destination. Dinner at your accommodation.

Rafting Tara River

 After hearty breakfast we will head towards Scepan Polje, a field where the Piva and Tara  riversfeed into the Drina. The Drina served as a natural border between Eastern and Western Roman Empire and today between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Raft through the impressive Tara River Gorge which is 1,300 meters (4,300 feet) deep – crazy, right? After exciting, splashy rafting tour on this clear emerald river, we will finish off with a delicious lunch and relax at Wild River huts and campsite. Dinner on your own.

Mostar Visit and Trebizat River Canoeing

 We have an early start today as we drive from Montenegro and head out to Mostar, an over five centuries old town on the Neretva River. The famous Old Bridge (Stari Most) is a symbol of  coexistence of three cultures but also a place where locals show off their diving skills. In the afternoon we will drive to Ljubuski and enjoy a trip on the narrow Trebizat River surrounded by lush forests. Our tonight’s accommodation is friendly family-run hotel by the river serving traditional meals and local specialties.

Split visit

 This morning we drive north towards Split, the largest coastal town of Croatia and major tourist hub. Once you immerse yourself into its medieval streets and Roman cellars you will understand where the hype is. Take free time to walk on the popular palm tree promenade and visit Roman emperor Diocletian’s palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 4th century. If you are up for some refreshment, you can also visit the popular Bacvice beach where local game of “Picigin” often takes place. All you need is a fist size ball and locals will show you how to do it. Later in the afternoon we continue towards Skradin and our hotel.

Krka National Park Cycling

 Today we will cycle around Krka River National Park, famous for its fantastic karst formations and travertine waterfalls. We will start cycling from the hotel and continue by local roads to the viewpoint over Lake Visovac. Today we will enjoy an excellent traditional Dalmatian prosciutto lunch. After cycling, we return to the hotel. Enjoy a late afternoon and dinner in Skradin on your own.

Zrmanja River Kayaking

 This kayaking trip is an expedition down the magnificent Wild West-like canyons of the Zrmanja River in Velebit Nature Park. Perfectly clear and green waters, rapids and waterfalls, hidden swimming pools and steep sided canyons will make this excursion an unforgettable experience. We use open canoes or sit-on-top kayaks for 2 persons with optional child seat. Rafting boats are used during high water season (usually before May and after September, but the water level can vary a lot in spring and in autumn). After an amazing day on the river, we will return to our vans and drive to rustic Korana Village in Plitvice National Park.

Plitvice Lakes National Park Visit

 We start our day early to avoid the crowds. Walk along the wooden paths and bridges in and around Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s premier national park. Its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves makes it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the pure, untouched nature. A panoramic boat and train ride will take us back to the start. Later in the afternoon we drive to Postojna, Slovenia for the evening.

Postojna Cave Visit and Drop Off Ljubljana or Zagreb

 This morning we will visit the Postojna Cave and its remarkable subterranean world, cave formations and diverse fauna. After a 2 hour tour and a walk around the park, we will continue to Ljubljana and then Zagreb. Feel free to choose where you would like to end your tour. If you decide to spend more time in Slovenia or Croatia, our guides will be happy to recommend other beautiful places to visit – especially those you won’t find in tourist guide books.

This itinerary includes visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Montenegro. Please check whether you need a visa. If you need a Croatian or Schengen visa, you will require a double/multiple entry visa.

Arrival and Departures: Huck Finn includes two transfers with each trip. These are the transfers from and to the airport or harbor on the first and the last day of the trip. In case you are arriving a few days earlier or extending your stay after your trip with us, we will provide a group transfer from a meeting point in Dubrovnik to the starting point of the trip. The meeting point can be easily reached by public transport, boat or taxi.

Drop off is possible in Ljubljana around noon and in Zagreb after 2 pm. Airport drop off can also be arranged but we advise flights from Ljubljana after 2 pm and from Zagreb after 5 pm.

Maximum number of participants: 16 guests per group. Larger groups upon request.

Minimum age: 12 years if accompanied by parent(s).

Child discount: valid for children of 12 years of age if accompanied by an adult. One child enjoying discount shares parents’ room; two or more children can have their own room.

Accommodation notes: Single use rooms are available upon request with 20% surcharge. Sharing a twin room with another person is possible in case there are other guests interested in sharing. In Korana Village rooms are traditional and rustic and two rooms may share one bathroom.
